Ingredients
- 40g Butter
- ⅓ cup Plain flour, about 40g
- 500ml Milk, at room temperature
- ¼ tsp Salt
- Black pepper, to taste
You’ll need: Saucepan, Whisk
Method
Melt the butter in a saucepan over low–medium heat.
Add the flour and stir for 1 minute, until it forms a bubbling paste. Do not let it brown.
Add a splash of the milk and whisk until smooth. Keep adding the milk a little at a time, whisking well between additions.
Cook over medium heat, stirring, until the sauce bubbles and thickens. Simmer gently for 2 minutes.
Season with the salt and pepper. It should coat the back of a spoon.
Storage
Fridge up to 2 days with baking paper pressed onto the surface. Reheat gently with a splash of milk until piping hot.
