Greek Loukoumades Recipe

Greek Loukoumades are a pastry delicacy served throughout Greece. The pastry is made from a dough of flour, milk, yeast, sugar and olive oil. The dough is deep-fried and then drizzled with honey and sprinkled with cinnamon. These delicious treats are a common sight at festivals in many parts of the country, being eaten as both a snack and a dessert.

Ingredients:

– 2 cups of all-purpose flour
– 1 ½ cup of lukewarm milk
– 1 ½ teaspoon dry yeast
– 1 teaspoon of sugar
– 2 tablespoons of olive oil
– 1 teaspoon salt
– Vegetable oil or clarified butter for frying
– Honey or syrup to drizzle
– Cinnamon to sprinkle

Instructions:

1. In a bowl, combine the flour, milk, yeast, sugar, olive oil, and salt. Mix well.

2. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until it is smooth and elastic, about 8 to 10 minutes.

3. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 to 1 ½ hours.

4. Once the dough has risen, prepare a deep pot with oil for frying and heat over medium-high heat until hot.

5. Carefully drop small spoonfuls of the dough into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 3 to 5 minutes.

6. Remove from the oil and transfer to a plate lined with paper towels.

7. Drizzle with honey or syrup and sprinkle with cinnamon.

8. Serve and enjoy!
