Ingredients
- 6 (about 1kg) Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced 1cm thick
- 2 tbsp Caster sugar
- 1 tsp Ground cinnamon
- 2 tbsp Water
- 1 cup (150g) Plain flour
- 1/2 cup (45g) Rolled oats
- 1/2 cup (100g) Brown sugar
- 100g Butter, cold, cut into cubes
You’ll need: 2 litre (8 cup) baking dish
Method
Preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan). Have a 2 litre (8 cup) baking dish ready, about 22cm.
Toss the apples with the caster sugar, cinnamon and water in the dish.
Put the flour, oats and brown sugar in a bowl. Rub in the butter with your fingertips until it looks like coarse crumbs.
Scatter the crumble over the apples without pressing down.
Bake for 40 minutes, until the topping is golden and the apples are tender when pierced with a knife. Cover loosely with foil if the topping browns too quickly.
Rest for 10 minutes before serving, as the apple filling is very hot.
Storage
Keeps covered in the fridge up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave until hot all the way through.
