A Savory Dish of Steamed Seafood: A Recipe

Ingredients

Instructions

1. Gently rinse the mussels, brushing away any dirt and gently rinse the shrimp, peeling off any shells. Discard any mussels that are not tightly closed.

2. Chop the Daikon into thin slices and mince the garlic. Chop the green onions into 1” pieces.

3. In a heavy-bottomed boiler, combine sake, soy sauce, and toasted sesame oil. Heat on medium-high heat until boiling

4. Add the mussels, shrimp, Daikon, garlic, and green onions to the sauce and let simmer for 2 minutes.

5. Add the snow peas, gently stirring them in. Cover and let the seafood steam for 4-5 minutes.

6. Carefully remove from the heat and transfer to a serving dish. Garnish with cilantro leaves.

Serving Suggestions

This steamed seafood dish is scrumptious on its own, but can also be served on its own over a bed of jasmine rice for a wholesome main course. The traditional method of flavoring this dish is to pour over a Shabu-shabu soup. If you’re looking for a simpler option, you can also just sprinkle over a bit of toasted sesame oil.
