Mediterranean Hummus Recipe

Hummus is a Middle Eastern spread made of chickpeas and tahini, and is a staple in many Mediterranean diets. This traditional hummus recipe marries the savory and sweet flavors of the region while delivering a healthy yet delicious dip or spread.


  • 1 can chickpeas (15.5 oz), drained and rinsed
  • 4 tablespoons tahini
  • 4 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper, to taste


  1. In a food processor, blend the chickpeas until smooth.
  2. Add the tahini, lemon juice, garlic, olive oil and water to the chickpeas and continue to blend until smooth.
  3. Add the cumin, salt and pepper, and blend until everything is incorporated.
  4. Taste and adjust seasonings to your liking.
  5. Serve with warm pita or bagel chips or spread on your favorite sandwich.
