Japanese Takoyaki Recipe

Takoyaki, a traditional Japanese food, are balls made from batter with bits of octopus inside, then cooked in a special pan. Takoyaki’s bright orange color and its savory, slightly sweet taste make it a favorite among many people. Here is how to make this delicious snack at home with this easy Takoyaki recipe!

Ingredients:

– 120g all-purpose flour
– 2 large eggs
– 2 tsp. dashi powder
– 2 C. water
– 1/2 C. finely chopped octopus (or fake crab)
– 1/2 finely chopped red ginger
– 2 Tbsp. finely chopped scallions
– Salt and pepper, to taste
– 8 large sheets of nori, chopped
– Cooking spray

Instructions:

1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, eggs, dashi powder, and water. Stir until the batter is smooth.
2. Add the octopus, ginger, scallions, salt and pepper to the batter, stirring until everything is well combined.
3. Heat up your takoyaki pan over medium heat and spray with cooking spray.
4. Spoon the batter into the molds, filling each one with a little over a tablespoon of batter.
5. Sprinkle the nori over the tops of the balls and using a skewer, press the nori slightly into the center of each ball (this will help the nori cook).
6. Cook for a few minutes until the surface has a nice golden color. Then, carefully flip each ball and cook for another few minutes on the other side.
7. Transfer to a plate with your favorite dipping sauce. Enjoy!
