How to Make Japanese Ramen
Ramen is a hearty and nourishing bowl of Japanese soup noodles. Usually reasonably priced and easy to find, it is no wonder that ramen has become one of the most popular dishes around the world. With a few simple steps, you can learn to make your own authentic Japanese ramen in the comfort of your own kitchen.
Ingredients:
- 2 Packages of Ramen Noodles
- 1 Quart of Vegetable Broth
- 1 Teaspoon of Soy Sauce
- 1 Teaspoon of Sesame Oil
- 2 Cloves of Garlic (minced)
- 1 Teaspoon of Ginger (minced)
- 1 Tablespoon of Mirin
- Salt & Pepper to Taste
- Optional Toppings (Scallions, Soft-Boiled Egg, etc.)
Instructions:
- In a medium-sized pot, heat the vegetable broth over medium-high heat. Add the soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic cloves, ginger and Mirin and season with salt and pepper.
- Once the broth has reached a boil, reduce the heat and let it simmer for several minutes until the flavors have had a chance to meld. Taste the broth and adjust seasoning according to preference.
- Add the ramen noodles to the pot of broth and simmer until the noodles are cooked al dente. This should take about 5 minutes. Remove the pot from the heat.
- Divide the ramen noodles and broth between 2 large bowls. Top with optional toppings as desired, such as scallions, a soft-boiled egg, or chili oil. Serve while hot.
