Chinese Egg Roll Recipe

Chinese egg rolls, or spring rolls, are one of the most popular Chinese dishes. They are crunchy, savory rolls filled with vegetables and sometimes meat, egg, and/or shrimp, then deep-fried for optimum taste and texture. This delicious egg roll recipe can be enjoyed as an appetizer or a main dish.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1/4 cup diced carrot
  • 1/4 cup diced onion
  • 1/4 cup diced celery
  • 1/2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Spring roll wrappers
  • Oil, for deep-frying

Instructions:

  1. In a medium bowl, mix together the pork, carrot, onion, celery, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, and white pepper.
  2. Stir in the cornstarch and water until well blended.
  3. To assemble the egg rolls, lay one spring roll wrapper on a flat surface. Place approximately 2 tablespoons of the pork mixture near one edge of the wrapper. Fold in the sides and fold up the end nearest you, then roll the entire lump away from you, rolling it as tightly as possible.
  4. Seal the edges of the roll with water.
  5. Repeat with the remaining ingredients until all the filling has been used.
  6. In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat oil to 375°F.
  7. Deep fry the egg rolls, a few at a time, until they are golden brown, about 2 minutes.
  8. Drain on paper towels and serve hot.
