Aunt Sandy’s Delicious Banana Bread
Friends and family always ask for the recipe whenever I share Aunt Sandy’s iconic banana bread. It’s the perfect balance of sweet and nutty flavours that have everyone coming back for seconds!
This beloved recipe has been passed down through generations and is just as delightful now as it was on the day it was first made. With just a few ingredients, you too can make a moist and flavourful loaf of banana bread that’s sure to impress.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 3 ripe bananas, mashed
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Method:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9×5″ loaf pan.
- In a medium-sized bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth.
- Beat in eggs one at a time. Add mashed bananas and mix until blended.
- In a separate bowl, mix together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Slowly add flour mixture to wet ingredients, stirring until everything is just combined.
- Fold in nuts with a spoon. (Optional).
- Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan and slicing to serve.
This recipe is a comforting classic but packs a unique punch thanks to the addition of banana. It also offers a slight hint of nuttiness and sweetness that makes it a standout dish. My aunt would often use walnuts in her recipe, but feel free to get creative and improvise with whatever nuts you have on hand.
It’s always a delight to make and share Aunt Sandy’s banana bread – and I’m sure you and your family will love it as much as mine do! If you’re looking to switch up your banana bread game, then this recipe is a perfect fit. Enjoy!
