The Delectable American Sloppy Joe
Sloppy Joes are one of the most beloved American dishes – an irresistible blend of seasoned ground beef, onions and spices served atop a warm soft bun. This easy-to-prepare dish is a classic family favorite and a perfect way to quickly satisfy a large crowd.
Originating in the Midwest during the late 1920s, the Sloppy Joe has seen several variations over the years. But, it wasn’t until the 1950s when the dish gained popularity – thanks to a certain condiment brand. Today, the Sloppy Joe is enjoyed as hot sandwiches, tacos, or even used as a pizza topping.
American Sloppy Joe Recipe
-1 lb lean ground beef
-1/2 cup chopped yellow onion
-1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
-1/4 cup ketchup
-1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
-2 tablespoons yellow mustard
-2 tablespoons brown sugar
-Salt and pepper, to taste
1. In a large skillet, over medium heat, cook the ground beef until no pink remains. Stir in the onion and bell pepper and cook until the vegetables are soft.
2.Add in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Stir until blended.
3. Simmer the mixture for five minutes, stirring occasionally.
4. Serve the Sloppy Joe mixture hot atop a hamburger bun. Enjoy!
